Honestly, I think that I’m doing a pretty good job here. I’m keeping this blog current while cranking out reviews for QRO Mag, check out my newest one for tUnE-yArDs   w h o k i l l.  Next up I’ll be writing about the latest Explosions in the Sky release, not exactly breaking news, but the website had a backlog of high-profile albums that haven’t been reviewed by them yet, which is nice for me, I get to practice writing and hopefully enough people are still interested in the albums to read the reviews.

Today though is not about critique, it’s about creation! I have a brand new mix for you lucky readers and it’s pretty fantastic if I do say so myself. I hope that you’re impressed by the opening track, a primitive mash-up produced on the fly by yours truly! Ok, before I toot my own horn too much perhaps you should just take a listen above.

Tracklist (click each song for links to download):

Hip-Hop Round-Up vol. 1.5…er…2.0 (get it, I rounded up)

So the same friend that I had the back and forth with over hipsters in the hip-hop scene began lamenting the state of hip-hop in general. Not creative enough/ not enough storytelling/ no jokes anymore/etc.Sadly, I feel like her sentiment is becoming more and more widespread so I took it upon myself to do a little round up of the rap world according to pomo.

So here are the rapers that the alt/blog world cares about in May/June 2011.

I think that i really want to go to camp bisco this year.  Anyone wanna come with me? We can hang out with a bunch of non-threatening bros like these.

Just in case you’re not too familiar with the artists playing this year, I decided to use this mix to feature as many of them as I could squezze into 10MBs of low-quality audio.  Enjoy!

Tracklist:

Four Tet - Both When I am Alone and When When We Are: Sorry, no link for this one, off of a rare split 7” with Hella.

Das Racist - You Oughta Know: Earlier today I heard some dude blasting this out of his SUV on my street, good to know that these guys are making it to a lot of sets of ears.

Ratatat - Mirando (Animal Collective remix): I’ll be honest, I’m not the biggest Ratatat fan, but they are one of the main acts at this festival, so I thought I’d include this downtempo remix from the AnCo crew.

Holy Ghost - Do it Again: Lead single off of the best electro-rock of 2k11.

HEALTH - Die Slow (Tobacco remix): I wish HEALTH was playing this festival, they put on a remarkably high-energy show.  The remixers here, Tobacco, will be though, along with Black Moth Super Rainbow with whom they share members.

Skrillex - Reptile’s Theme: Pretty much the marquee name in Dubstep circa May 2011.  I’m not too deep in his catalog, as if choosing a random song he did for the Mortal Kombat soundtrack isn’t a clear enough indicator of that.

Cut Copy - Lights & Music (Moullinex remix): Cut Copy is pretty much co-headlining the festival alongside the Disco Biscuits, and while their last album was somewhat underwhelming, i’m sure that they’ll be more than capable to put in the work to move bodies with Foucauldian percision.

Neon Indian - Deadbeat Summer (Database remix): Yeah boy, Alan Palomo and co. spell a good time!  I’ve seen them twice, once even in Palomo’s hometown of Monterrey Mexico and each time I raged my ass off, definitely a great addition to the festival circuit and I’m glad to see them willing to take the world by storm unlike some of the other Chillwave breakouts of 2009 (did someone say Washed Out, cough…).

Wiz Khalifa - The Thrill: Another marquee name of the festival.  Admittedly I’m none to familiar with his catalog, I’ll leave that to the frat boys and Pittsburg backpackers, but I’ve always liked his laid back verses on this Empire of the Sun Track.

So did I convince anybody?
